The second round of the TSSAA playoffs gave us everything that makes November football special. Tight finishes, clutch playmakers, hostile road environments, and programs showing who is built for deep playoff runs. For this week’s Momentum Monday Takeaways Week 2 Playoffs, we locked in on two of the biggest results from November 14. Both games carried real stakes and real momentum swings that will impact the quarterfinal picture in a big way.
Below is the breakdown of the two matchups that defined the night and set the tone heading into Round 3.
Lincoln County 39, Powell 37
Class 5A Second Round | Powell, TN

Lincoln County walked into a tough road environment and delivered one of the biggest shockers of the second round. The Falcons defeated Powell 39 to 37 in a game that turned into a full roller coaster. Powell hit early and built momentum behind its home crowd, but Lincoln County refused to fold and stormed back with a composed second half that flipped the entire script.
The Falcons trailed by multiple scores before rallying with confident drives and timely stops. Lincoln County did not just steal this one. They earned it through physicality, discipline, and execution late in the fourth quarter. The win pushes Lincoln County into double digit victories and moves them into the quarterfinal round with real belief.
Powell finishes the season with nine total wins. They came into the postseason as a strong contender, but Lincoln County showed what happens when a road team leans into toughness and refuses to panic. This was a classic playoff contest that came down to who could finish the final two minutes, and Lincoln County made the bigger plays when it mattered most.
Beech 33, Munford 30
Class 5A Second Round | Hendersonville, TN

Beech survived a full heavyweight push from Munford in a 33 to 30 thriller that delivered nonstop action from start to finish. According to MaxPreps, quarterback Kaden Powell accounted for four total touchdowns and kept the Buccaneers on schedule all night. His efficiency in the passing game, combined with calm decision making, helped Beech control tempo when the game tightened.
Running back Chelton Swafford added more than 100 rushing yards and gave the Beech offense balance. Munford fought until the final whistle and leaned heavily on Tay Starks and Kailer Dortch, who combined for over 200 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Every time Beech landed a punch, Munford answered with one of their own.
What separated the teams was Beech’s late game execution. Key third downs, red zone decisions, and defensive stops swung the momentum back to the Buccaneers at the right time. The win extends Beech to eleven straight victories and sets up a major quarterfinal matchup with undefeated Page. This is the definition of a team that knows how to close.
Final Thought
The second round brought out grit, confidence, and clutch football from programs that know how to survive tough playoff battles. These games were the purest example of why the Momentum Monday Takeaways Week 2 Playoffs segment exists. Teams either rise or fade when the lights get brighter, and both Lincoln County and Beech proved they are built for deeper runs.
