Week 2 of the 2026 Tennessee high school football season delivered several standout performances, and the TTS crew is back to recognize four players who made their presence felt when the lights came on.

Triple Threat D, Triple Threat Tray, JG and Coach Daniel each selected one player for this week’s spotlight.

One receiver continued a breakout start.

One running back carried the load for more than 200 yards.

One quarterback put together a career night.

And one highly recruited offensive tackle reminded everybody why the guys in the trenches deserve attention too.

A Breakout Start Is Becoming Hard to Ignore

Some players enter a season looking for a breakout opportunity.

Lex Baskin looks like he’s taking his.

After opening the year with four catches for 111 yards and a touchdown against Baylor, Baskin returned in Week 2 and delivered another huge performance.

This time, Brentwood Academy was on the winning side.

Baskin finished with 154 receiving yards and two touchdowns as the Eagles overwhelmed rival Brentwood High, 49-14.

Two games.

Two 100-yard receiving performances.

265 receiving yards.

Three touchdowns.

And suddenly one of Brentwood Academy’s many offensive weapons is becoming impossible to overlook.

A Big-Play Threat

Baskin’s game is about more than simply catching passes.

He can change the field.

Against Baylor, his four receptions produced 111 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown.

Then came 154 yards and two more scores against Brentwood.

Get him behind the defense and there’s trouble.

Get him the football in space and there’s trouble.

And when you combine that ability with the number of weapons Brentwood Academy already has around him, defenses face a serious question:

Who do you take away?

Baskin is a 6-foot, 175-pound Class of 2027 receiver who committed to Middle Tennessee State on June 28 after attracting interest from a lengthy group of programs.

His recruiting résumé includes offers from Arkansas, Cincinnati, Memphis, UConn, Liberty, UAB, Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Miami (Ohio) and FIU.

Last season, Baskin finished with 307 receiving yards.

Through only two games this season, he’s already at 265.

That’s the story.

More opportunity.

More production.

More attention.

JD Stafford Makes His Presence Felt

Week 2 produced another performance worthy of the TTS spotlight.

For Triple Threat Tray’s selection, the choice is JD Stafford of Stratford.

The senior playmaker put together a huge night as the Spartans defeated Stewarts Creek, 38-21.

Stafford didn’t just contribute.

He took over.

He finished with:

24 carries

219 rushing yards

2 rushing touchdowns

1 receiving touchdown

3 total touchdowns

His receiving score came on an 11-yard touchdown reception, giving Stratford another way to get the football into the hands of its biggest playmaker.

A Workhorse With Big-Play Ability

Twenty-four carries says a lot.

It shows trust.

It shows toughness.

And it shows Stratford was comfortable putting the football in Stafford’s hands over and over again.

He answered with more than 200 rushing yards.

Stafford also showed that he doesn’t have to line up exclusively in the backfield to hurt a defense.

Run it.

Catch it.

Find the end zone.

Stafford did all three.

A New Chapter at Stratford

Stafford’s football journey didn’t begin at Stratford.

He previously played at Lebanon, where he was listed as a running back and cornerback and contributed on both sides of the football.

Now, as a senior, Stafford has taken his game to Stratford and is making the most of a new opportunity.

New school.

New uniform.

Same ability to make plays.

After 219 rushing yards and three total touchdowns, Stafford made sure everybody knew he had arrived.

JG’s Pick: Crews Jenkins — Brentwood Academy

Crews Jenkins Puts on a Show

Sometimes a quarterback has one of those nights where everything starts clicking.

Week 2 was that night for Crews Jenkins.

The Brentwood Academy quarterback shredded Brentwood High for 371 passing yards and four touchdowns, leading the Eagles to a commanding 49-14 victory.

Four touchdown passes.

Nearly 400 yards through the air.

A rivalry victory.

That’s a Spotlight Player performance.

Two of Jenkins’ touchdown passes went to Lex Baskin.

Two more went to Judah Lancaster.

That distribution showed exactly what makes the Brentwood Academy offense so difficult to defend.

There are weapons everywhere.

From Waiting His Turn to Leading Brentwood Academy

Jenkins’ story makes the performance even more interesting.

Before becoming Brentwood Academy’s starter, Jenkins competed at quarterback with George MacIntyre, who eventually developed into a five-star prospect and Tennessee quarterback.

Jenkins stayed ready.

When his opportunity came, he took control of the offense.

As a junior in 2025, Jenkins completed 137 of 205 passes — 66.8% — for 1,817 yards and 22 touchdowns while helping Brentwood Academy reach the Division II-AAA state championship game.

The Eagles finished one victory away from the gold ball, falling 28-24 to Baylor in the championship game.

Now Jenkins is a senior.

And there’s another goal in front of him.

Finish the job.

An SEC Quarterback Commit

Jenkins committed to Ole Miss on May 6, 2026, becoming part of the Rebels’ 2027 recruiting class.

The three-star quarterback also held offers that included Memphis, Southern Miss, Florida Atlantic and South Florida.

His Week 2 performance showed exactly why colleges wanted him.

Accuracy.

Command.

Playmaking.

And the ability to distribute the football throughout a loaded offense.

Against Brentwood, Jenkins wasn’t simply managing the game.

He was controlling it.

The Big Men Deserve Their Flowers Too

Quarterbacks throw touchdowns.

Receivers make highlight catches.

Running backs pile up yards.

But none of it happens without the guys up front.

That’s why Coach Daniel’s Week 2 selection goes in a different direction.

Li’Marcus “Bug” Jones.

Jones transferred to Brentwood Academy from Callaway High School in Mississippi before his senior season and immediately added serious size, talent and recruiting pedigree to an already loaded Eagles roster.

Depending on the recruiting service, Jones is listed around 6-foot-5 to 6-foot-6 and 285 to 300 pounds.

And he isn’t simply big.

He’s one of the most highly recruited offensive tackles in the region.

New Protection, Same Mission

Brentwood Academy came within one game of winning another state championship in 2025.

This year, the mission hasn’t changed.

Get back.

Finish the job.

And Jones was added to help make that possible.

One of his biggest responsibilities is protecting Jenkins and helping give Brentwood Academy’s explosive collection of receivers and running backs the time and space to operate.

Against Brentwood High, that offense erupted for 49 points.

Jenkins threw four touchdown passes.

Baskin produced 154 receiving yards and two scores.

Those are the numbers people see.

But the work in the trenches helps make those numbers possible.

A Major College Prospect

Jones committed to Colorado and coach Deion Sanders on May 24.

Before shutting down his recruitment, the four-star offensive tackle accumulated roughly 30 scholarship offers and drew interest from programs including Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Florida and Oregon.

Colorado ultimately beat out Mississippi State and Purdue from Jones’ final group.

That kind of recruiting attention tells you what college coaches see.

Size.

Power.

Upside.

And the potential to become a major presence at offensive tackle.

The big men don’t always get the box-score love.

Four Tennessee High School Football Players Earn Week 2 TTS Stamps

That’s what makes this week’s group special.

Lex Baskin stretched the field and continued what is quickly becoming a breakout senior season.

JD Stafford carried the workload and punished Stewarts Creek for 219 rushing yards and three total touchdowns.

Crews Jenkins commanded Brentwood Academy’s offense and threw for 371 yards and four touchdowns.

And Li’Marcus “Bug” Jones represented the guys in the trenches — the players doing the dirty work that allows explosive offenses to function.

Receiver.

Running back.

Quarterback.

Offensive tackle.

Different positions.

Different responsibilities.

Same result.

They made their presence felt.
