MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — In championship basketball, poise and decision-making often separate winners from contenders.

On Saturday morning inside Murphy Center, Derrick Roberson (#30) gave Chattanooga Prep exactly that.

In Chattanooga Prep’s 61-52 win over Westview, Roberson turned in one of the steadiest performances on the floor, finishing with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting while helping guide the offense with control and confidence from start to finish.

In a game where every possession mattered, Roberson never looked rushed. He stayed patient, played within the flow, and made the right reads when the moment got heavier. He did not force tough looks or try to take over in a reckless way. Instead, he trusted the game, found his spots, and delivered efficient scoring that helped Chattanooga Prep stay in command.

That approach matched the identity Chattanooga Prep showed all game long. The state champions shot 57.9% from the field, a number that reflected more than just hot shooting. It showed discipline, smart decision-making, and the ability to get quality looks in winning time. Roberson was right in the middle of that execution, consistently converting around the basket and making Westview pay for defensive lapses.

Whenever Westview tried to make a push, Chattanooga Prep answered with composed half-court offense and controlled possessions. That response mattered. Rather than letting the game speed up or get loose, Prep kept its structure, valued the basketball, and made Westview work against a set defense. Roberson’s efficient scoring helped settle those key stretches and prevented the momentum from fully swinging.

By limiting giveaways and forcing Westview to operate in the half court, Prep kept the game on its terms. That style favored their discipline, their pace, and their overall control.
