In a game that started as a defensive battle, Blackman stayed composed and eventually took control, shutting out Columbia 19-0.
Both teams struggled to find rhythm early, with a scoreless first half dominated by defense. Blackman began to show signs of life in the second quarter when Raighan Buchanan (#11) connected with Madison Nettles (#0) on a deep ball, sparking momentum even though the drive didn’t result in points. Nettles followed it up with another big gain, but Columbia answered with an interception to keep the game tied.
Columbia didn’t make it easy. Their quarterback, #8, led the way — making plays with her arm, extending plays with her legs, and even coming away with a key interception to keep her team within reach as the game remained 0-0 heading into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Blackman took over.
Adyson Moore (#25) helped spark the drive, setting up a big-time touchdown connection from Buchanan to Nettles to put Blackman on the board. From there, the momentum never shifted back.
In the fourth quarter, Buchanan connected with Jordan Krise (#9) for another score to extend the lead.
Then, with the game in hand, Blackman reached into their bag.
A perfectly executed flea flicker found Kelsey Hill (#1), who finished it off with a rushing touchdown to seal the 19-0 win.
DEFENSE SET THE TONE
The difference all night was the defense.
Led by playmakers like Jayla Kyles (#6) and a relentless unit around her, Blackman consistently made stops, secured flag pulls, and limited Columbia to minimal offensive success — holding them to no more than a handful of first downs.
FINAL WORD
Blackman stayed patient. Stayed disciplined. And when the moment came…
they took over.
