Triple Threat Sportscast Week 3 Middle Tennessee Football Rankings

Week 3 gave the Triple Threat Sportscast crew plenty to debate.

There were dominant wins, undefeated teams continuing to build their résumés, a major upset involving Oakland, a thriller between MBA and FRA, and a Brentwood Academy team forcing voters to decide just how much a difficult schedule should matter when evaluating a 1-2 record.

After the ballots from Triple Threat D, Triple Threat Tray, JG and Coach Daniel were calculated using the TTS scoring system, five points for first, four for second, three for third, two for fourth and one for fifth, the new Wednesday Top 10 is set.

Antioch and Oakland both finished with two points, but Antioch gets the No. 6 position because its highest individual placement was No. 4, while Oakland’s highest placement was No. 5.

Ensworth and FRA did not receive Top Five scoring points, but their consistent appearances across the four ballots helped them round out the official Top 10.

And the voting itself produced one of the more interesting rankings we’ve had.

No. 1 BGA | 20 points (3-0)

There wasn’t a debate at the top.

BGA was the unanimous No. 1 team, receiving all four first-place votes and a perfect 20 out of a possible 20 points.

And after what the Wildcats did Friday night, it’s difficult to argue with the result.

BGA demolished Pearl-Cohn 49-6, improving to 3-0 and extending its winning streak to 12 games dating back to last season. The Wildcats exploded for 28 points in the first quarter and led 42-6 by halftime.

The offensive numbers were ridiculous.

• QB Bo Bryan: 19-of-27, 301 passing yards, 5 TDs
• WR Maddox Porter: 6 receptions, 108 yards, 3 TDs
• Fletcher Fields: 5 carries, 64 rushing yards, 2 TDs

That is exactly what you want from the team sitting at No. 1. BGA isn’t just undefeated. It is overwhelming opponents. Through three games the Wildcats have beaten St. Michael Catholic 41-18, Columbia Academy 62-0 and Pearl-Cohn 49-6.

At this point, somebody is going to have to take No. 1 away from BGA on the field, because all four TTS voters agree on who owns it right now.

No. 2 Page | 15 points (3-0)

Page continues to make its argument that there shouldn’t be much separation between the Patriots and anybody in Middle Tennessee.

The Patriots handled Hendersonville 34-3, improving to 3-0 while extending their winning streak to 18 consecutive games dating back to last season. Page has opened 2026 with wins of 48-14 over Giles County, 35-0 over Green Hill and now 34-3 over Hendersonville.

And Cameron Kruse continues to operate the offense at an extremely high level.

• QB Cameron Kruse: 243 passing yards, 3 passing TDs, plus 43 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD
• WR Dylan Streeter: 133 receiving yards, 2 TDs

Page also finished with 243 passing yards and 153 rushing yards, while its defense surrendered only three points.

That’s 69 total points scored and only three allowed over the last two weeks.

Page received three No. 2 votes and one No. 3 vote from the TTS crew. BGA owns No. 1, but Page has established itself as the clear No. 2 in this week’s voting.

No. 3 MBA | 11 points (3-0)

MBA may have delivered the most important résumé-building victory of anybody in the Top Five.

The Big Red survived previously unbeaten FRA 40-36 in one of Week 3’s best games, improving to 3-0. MBA has now beaten Pearl-Cohn 34-20, Hamilton 57-0 and FRA 40-36.

Quarterback Charlie Verner delivered through the air, while several players produced huge individual moments.

• QB Charlie Verner: 10-of-23, 197 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT
• WR Warner Hart: 1 reception, 86 yards, 1 TD
• David Mapangala: 3 carries, 75 yards, 1 TD

But perhaps the wildest stat line of the entire week belonged to Henry Perry.

Perry recorded two interceptions, including the game-clinching pick, four field goals, four PATs, a successful onside kick and a 14-yard run on a fake punt.

Read that again.

Two interceptions. Four field goals. Four extra points. An onside kick. A fake-punt conversion.

That’s football in all three phases.

MBA’s 3-0 record now has something important attached to it: a quality win over a ranked FRA team. That victory helped push the Big Red into the No. 3 spot in our rankings.

No. 4 Riverdale | 6 points (2-1)

Don’t let the 2-1 record fool you.

Riverdale has responded to its opening-week 19-14 loss at Knoxville Catholic by beating Father Ryan 45-3 and then going on the road and beating Blackman 38-14.

The Blackman game was an especially strong statement because Riverdale’s offense got contributions everywhere.

• QB Gavin Hampton: 11-of-21, 209 passing yards, 4 TDs
• Gavin Johnson: 2 receptions, 92 yards, 1 TD, including an 80-yard touchdown
• Brylan Oduor: 4 receptions, 64 yards, 2 TDs
• Jordan Turner: 9 carries, 85 rushing yards

Hampton’s four-touchdown performance stands out, but this wasn’t a one-player offense. Riverdale created explosive plays through multiple receivers while Turner helped provide balance on the ground.

Since losing the opener by only five points, Riverdale has outscored its next two opponents 83-17.

That’s a pretty convincing response.

No. 5 Brentwood Academy | 3 points (1-2)

And here is where our voting system gets really interesting.

Brentwood Academy made the official Top Five despite being inside the scoring Top Five on only one ballot.

Triple Threat D had BA at No. 8. Tray had BA at No. 7. Coach Daniel, however, ranked Brentwood Academy No. 3.

Because only the Top Five positions receive points, Coach Daniel’s third-place vote gave Brentwood Academy three points, enough by itself to put BA at No. 5 overall.

That’s fascinating, but there is also a football argument behind it.

Brentwood Academy is only 1-2, but those two losses have come against Baylor and Pennsylvania power St. Joseph’s Prep. BA beat Brentwood 49-14 between those defeats. Against St. Joseph’s Prep on Friday, the Eagles fell 31-23 in the MaxPreps Game of the Week.

And Brentwood Academy didn’t simply get run off the field. St. Joseph’s Prep led 28-16 at halftime, but BA fought back. Crews Jenkins connected with Judah Lancaster for an 18-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 28-23 in the third quarter. The Eagles later reached the St. Joseph’s Prep 1-yard line with a chance to take the lead but were stopped on downs.

A full Brentwood Academy individual box score had not been entered on MaxPreps as of the latest update, so we’re not going to invent additional player totals that haven’t been verified.

This is where quality of opponent matters. A 1-2 record by itself looks rough. A 1-2 record against this level of competition tells a much different story.

And Coach Daniel’s conviction on that point was strong enough to put BA in the Top Five.

The Most Intriguing Part of This Week’s Vote

The numbers tell a story beyond simply ranking five teams.

BGA was unanimous No. 1, 20 out of a possible 20 points.

At the other end of the Top Five, Brentwood Academy got all three of its points from one voter. Coach Daniel’s No. 3 ranking was enough to push BA into fifth even though BA wasn’t in the scoring portion of anybody else’s ballot.

Then comes another wrinkle.

Antioch and Oakland finished tied with two points apiece just outside the Top Five.

Antioch received its two points from Tray’s No. 4 vote.

Oakland reached two points differently, two separate No. 5 votes, one from Triple Threat D and one from Coach Daniel.

So Antioch had the higher individual placement, while Oakland had more scoring ballots.

Under the highest-individual-ballot-position tiebreaker, Antioch takes No. 6 and Oakland comes in at No. 7.

Then there’s Gallatin. JG was the only voter to put Gallatin inside the scoring Top Five, ranking the Green Wave No. 5. That one point was enough to give Gallatin the No. 8 spot in the final rankings.

At Nos. 9 and 10, Ensworth and FRA did not score any Top Five points, but the overall voting showed strong consensus for both programs. Ensworth appeared on all four Top 10 ballots, while FRA appeared on three.

That’s what makes this week’s vote so interesting.

Consensus controls the top of the rankings, but one strong opinion can still dramatically change the bottom of the Top Five, and even the entire Top 10.

BGA needed everybody to agree and got a perfect score.

Brentwood Academy needed one voter to believe strongly enough in the résumé, and that was enough.

Gallatin needed one Top Five vote to grab a spot ahead of several teams that appeared on more ballots but didn’t crack anyone else’s scoring range.

That’s the beauty of the TTS Wednesday Rankings.

It’s not one person’s list. It’s four different evaluations of the same Middle Tennessee football landscape, Triple Threat D, Triple Threat Tray, JG and Coach Daniel, and every ballot matters.
