Westview’s QB #4 Graham Simpson celebrates after State Championship win over Gatlingburg-Pittman

Written by Travis Hunter — December 5, 2025 — 6:00 p.m. CT

Some quarterbacks just win football games. Graham Simpson is the kind who takes over an entire championship and leaves his name etched into the record books. In the Class 3A BlueCross Bowl at Finley Stadium, the Westview sophomore delivered one of the most dominant state championship performances in Tennessee high school football history, torching Gatlinburg-Pittman while leading the Chargers to a 62-21 win and a state title.

Simpson completed 18 of 21 passes for 566 yards and seven touchdowns, added 46 rushing yards and a rushing score, and finished with 612 total yards of offense and eight total touchdowns. By the end of the night, he had tied or broken multiple TSSAA championship records and officially moved into the top tier of high school quarterbacks nationally in the Class of 2028.

Carrying the Westview Torch Forward

Westview fans know the Simpson name well. Older brother Ty Simpson led the Chargers to a championship in 2021 before heading to Alabama. Graham has embraced the comparison without running from it. Instead, he is building his own legacy at an even faster pace. With this performance, he passed Ty for the career passing touchdown mark at Westview and positioned himself as one of the most dangerous young quarterbacks in the country.

BlueCross Bowl Breakdown: A Championship Clinic

Westview needed a fast start, and Simpson delivered instantly. On the very first offensive snap, he launched an 80-yard touchdown to wide receiver Christopher Damron. The timing was perfect, the throw was effortless, and the tone was set for the rest of the night.

By the end of the first quarter, Westview led 28-0 after a sequence that included:

  • 80-yard touchdown pass to Damron
  • 10-yard touchdown pass to Miles Brown
  • 73-yard touchdown pass to Asa Barnes
  • 26-yard rushing touchdown by Simpson

Gatlinburg-Pittman responded with a touchdown early in the second quarter, but Simpson answered with another barrage. He hit Damron again for a 62-yard score, then delivered a stunning 99-yard touchdown to Donteze Joy after being backed up at his own goal line. Another deep strike to Barnes and an 83-yard kick return touchdown from Brown pushed the lead to 55-14 at halftime, tying a TSSAA record for most points in a championship half.

In the third quarter, Simpson added a seventh touchdown pass — again to Damron — before the backups handled the rest. The performance was complete, overwhelming, and historic.

Historic Numbers Under Championship Pressure

Simpson’s final stat line stands with the best ever recorded in a Tennessee state championship game. His production came against a quality opponent on the biggest stage of the season. The numbers included:

  • 566 passing yards (championship record)
  • Seven passing touchdowns (ties championship record)
  • Eight total touchdowns
  • 612 total yards of offense
  • Westview’s 690 yards of total offense (team record)

Performances like this do not happen often. Simpson displayed command, poise, and elite-level decision making while attacking every layer of the Gatlinburg-Pittman defense.

Trust in His Playmakers

Simpson spread the ball to his receivers with confidence. Damron emerged as a primary threat with multiple touchdowns, Barnes consistently stretched the defense vertically, Joy delivered the longest play of the night on a 99-yard score, and Brown produced both offensively and on special teams.

Every big play traced back to Simpson’s timing, touch, and ability to read leverage pre-snap and post-snap.

Recruiting Profile and What’s Ahead

As a Class of 2028 quarterback, Simpson already carries significant national interest, with major programs tracking his development closely. His combination of arm talent, maturity, and production separates him from most young quarterbacks. This championship performance was not an outlier — it was confirmation of who he is becoming.

With two seasons left in high school, Simpson has a chance to finish his career as one of the most productive quarterbacks in Tennessee history.

Why This Spotlight Matters

Player Spotlights highlight more than stats. They highlight moments. Simpson’s performance in the BlueCross Bowl was a moment that changed the trajectory of his career and elevated the entire Westview program. He honored the legacy before him while creating one of his own.
