Written by Triple Threat D

Week 7 brought some serious separation at the top of the Triple Threat Sportscast Middle Tennessee rankings — but it also gave us one of our closest battles of the season.
Battle Ground Academy remains the team everybody is chasing. MBA stayed planted at No. 2. Riverdale strengthened its case at No. 3 with another impressive region victory. Brentwood Academy made the biggest move inside the Top Five after an offensive explosion in Memphis, while undefeated Antioch landed at No. 5 despite continuing to destroy opponents.
As always, the TTS rankings are determined by four ballots — Triple Threat Trey, Triple Threat D, JG and Coach Daniel.
Only the Top Five positions on each ballot earn points: 5 points for No. 1, 4 for No. 2, 3 for No. 3, 2 for No. 4 and 1 for No. 5.
That gives us 60 total voting points available every week.
Official TTS Week 7 Top 10
| Rank | Team | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Battle Ground Academy | 19 |
| 2 | Montgomery Bell Academy | 13 |
| 3 | Riverdale | 11 |
| 4 | Brentwood Academy | 6 |
| 5 | Antioch | 6 |
| 6 | Lipscomb Academy | 3 |
| 7 | Oakland | 2 |
| 8 | Brentwood | 0 |
| 9 | Page | 0 |
| 10 | Franklin Road Academy | 0 |
Brentwood Academy and Antioch both finished with six points, but BA gets the No. 4 spot through the full-ballot consensus tiebreaker.
Brentwood Academy appeared on all four ballots, while Antioch appeared on three.
And now, let’s get into the teams that separated themselves at the top.
No. 1 — Battle Ground Academy
Record: 5-1 | TTS Points: 19
Last game: BGA 56, Davidson Academy 7
There was no letdown from BGA.
One week after being pushed in an emotional matchup with Franklin Road Academy, the Wildcats came back and absolutely dismantled Davidson Academy, 56-7.
And the biggest story was quarterback Bo Bryan.
Bryan completed 17 of 19 passes for 317 yards and seven touchdowns.
That is an 89.5% completion rate with seven touchdown passes in one night.
Seven.
That was Bryan’s second consecutive game with at least six touchdown passes.
MaxPreps also credited Max Curry with 143 total yards and three touchdowns in the blowout.
That is what separates BGA right now.
They can win a shootout. They can win when challenged late. And then they can turn around the following week and put somebody away before the game ever has a chance to become interesting.
BGA is now 5-1 and has won 14 of its last 15 games dating back to last season.
TTS Take
There was almost complete agreement here.
Three voters put BGA No. 1, and JG had the Wildcats No. 2.
That produced 19 of a possible 20 points.
Until somebody knocks BGA off or gives the crew a compelling reason to move them, the road to No. 1 still runs through the Wildcats.
No. 2 — Montgomery Bell Academy
Record: 6-1 | TTS Points: 13
Last game: MBA 14, CPA 10
MBA’s latest win looked nothing like BGA’s.
And that is not necessarily a bad thing.
After suffering its first loss of the season against Baylor, MBA went on the road and had to grind through a low-scoring game against Christ Presbyterian Academy.
The Big Red escaped with a 14-10 victory, improving to 6-1.
The 14 points were MBA’s lowest offensive output of the season, but this was much more about response than style points.
The verified scoring plays came on the ground.
Nix Joyner scored on a 15-yard rushing touchdown, while David Mapangala added a 13-yard rushing score.
MBA also got an important first-quarter takeaway when Alex Klindt recovered a CPA fumble.
There wasn’t a complete individual yardage box score available from the public sources we could verify, so we’re not going to manufacture one just to fill space.
What matters is MBA found a way.
TTS Take
This was a different test.
Anybody can look good when everything is clicking. MBA had just gotten punched in the mouth the week before, then had to play an ugly, rainy, low-scoring game.
They answered with a win.
That kept MBA at No. 2 with 13 points, and there is an interesting gap beginning to develop.
BGA is clearly No. 1, while MBA and Riverdale are beginning to form their own argument for who deserves to be the Wildcats’ biggest challenger.
No. 3 — Riverdale
Record: 6-1 | TTS Points: 11
Last game: Riverdale 30, Smyrna 14
Riverdale might be playing the best sustained football of anybody outside BGA right now.
The Warriors went into Smyrna against a Bulldogs team that had won four straight — including an earlier victory over Oakland — and left with a convincing 30-14 win.
That moved Riverdale to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in Region 3-6A, while extending the Warriors’ winning streak to six games.
And this time, we have the offensive numbers to back up what we saw.
Quarterback Gavin Hampton threw for 266 yards and four touchdowns.
Receiver Brylan Oduor caught five passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns — all in the first half.
That is a quarterback-receiver combination that is becoming a serious problem.
Riverdale has now beaten:
- Father Ryan
- Blackman
- LaVergne
- Stewarts Creek
- Columbia Central
- Smyrna
Six straight.
And the Warriors have not simply been surviving those games.
Five of those six victories have come by at least 16 points.
TTS Take
Riverdale’s point total jumped from seven last week to 11 this week.
That matters.
The Warriors are not just sitting at No. 3 because somebody has to be there.
They are beginning to close the gap on MBA.
And if Hampton and Oduor continue putting up numbers like this, the discussion about No. 2 could get very interesting.
No. 4 — Brentwood Academy
Record: 5-2 | TTS Points: 6
Last game: Brentwood Academy 63, MUS 14
Here comes Brentwood Academy.
The Eagles have been climbing back toward the top of these rankings for several weeks, and their latest performance made it impossible to ignore them.
BA went to Memphis and hammered Memphis University School 63-14.
Sixty-three points were a season high for the Eagles, and the victory was their fourth consecutive win, pushing them to 5-2.
One of the biggest individual performances came from Lex Baskin, who finished with four receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
And BA has weapons everywhere.
Quarterback Crews Jenkins has been the engine of this offense all season, while players like Baskin, Kesean Bowman and a deep group of skill players make it difficult to key on one option.
The bigger picture is what stands out.
After sitting at 1-2 following losses to Baylor and national power St. Joseph’s Prep, BA has responded with four straight wins:
- 45-6
- 43-7
- 24-0
- 63-14
That is a serious response.
TTS Take
This is why strength of schedule matters in our rankings.
A 5-2 record by itself does not tell BA’s entire story.
The Eagles have tested themselves against elite competition, survived the early-season adversity and now look like a completely different football team.
They move from No. 6 last week to No. 4 this week.
That was the biggest Top Five move on the board.
No. 5 — Antioch
Record: 7-0 | TTS Points: 6
Last game: Antioch 47, Overton 7
Yes, Antioch is undefeated.
And yes, they are No. 5.
Before anybody jumps into the comments, understand what happened here.
Antioch and Brentwood Academy both finished with six voting points. BA won the tiebreaker based on broader support across all four ballots.
That does not change what Antioch is doing on the field.
The Bears went on the road and smashed Overton 47-7, improving to 7-0.
Antioch has now scored at least 45 points in five games and has three victories by 40 or more.
And one of the nastiest stat lines of the entire Week 7 slate came from the defensive side.
Fred Ntumba recorded eight tackles, four sacks and six tackles for loss against Overton.
Four sacks.
Six TFLs.
In one game.
That is disruption.
Quarterback Andre Adams remains the headline name on offense.
At the midseason point, the Colorado commit had completed 63 of 86 passes for 1,207 yards, 10 touchdowns and one interception, while rushing for another 431 yards and four touchdowns.
So Antioch is not undefeated because of one player or one side of the ball.
They have an elite quarterback and a defense capable of wrecking games.
TTS Take
Antioch falling from No. 4 to No. 5 is more about Brentwood Academy rising than Antioch doing anything wrong.
The Bears are 7-0.
And their next matchup is one of the most interesting games on the upcoming schedule: Antioch at Franklin Road Academy.
That one could dramatically affect next Wednesday’s rankings.
The Rest of the Top 10
No. 6 Lipscomb Academy — 3 Points
The Mustangs handled Father Ryan 44-3, with Elijah Hensley rushing 16 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
No. 7 Oakland — 2 Points
Oakland beat Rockvale 30-7. Donte Cameron contributed 35 rushing yards and even completed a 34-yard touchdown pass.
No. 8 Brentwood — 0 Points
The Bruins moved to 6-1 by demolishing Coffee County 55-0, their fifth straight victory.
No. 9 Page — 0 Points
Page improved to 6-1 with another shutout, beating James Lawson 42-0.
No. 10 Franklin Road Academy — 0 Points
FRA enters the TTS Top 10 after handing previously unbeaten Goodpasture a 41-10 loss, moving the Panthers to 5-2.

Whose Ballot Was Closest to the Official TTS Rankings?
There are actually two different answers, depending on what we mean by “closest.”
Coach Daniel Had the Closest Order
Coach Daniel’s ballot most closely resembled the final ranking order.
The official ranking is:
BGA, MBA, Riverdale, Brentwood Academy, Antioch, Lipscomb Academy, Oakland, Brentwood, Page, FRA.
Coach Daniel had:
BGA, Riverdale, MBA, Antioch, Brentwood Academy, Oakland, Lipscomb Academy, Brentwood, Page, Ravenwood.
That means he had nine of the eventual Top 10 teams, and his order was extremely close.
He nailed:
- No. 1 BGA
- No. 8 Brentwood
- No. 9 Page
MBA was only one position off.
Riverdale was one position off.
Brentwood Academy was one position off.
Antioch was one position off.
Lipscomb Academy was one position off.
Oakland was one position off.
His only team that did not make the final Top 10 was Ravenwood at No. 10, with FRA taking that final position.
So Coach Daniel wins the “closest overall ballot” award this week.
Triple Threat D Picked the Exact 10-Team Field
But Triple Threat D deserves some credit too.
Triple Threat D’s order was more different from the final ranking, but every single team on his ballot ended up in the official TTS Top 10.
All 10.
BGA. Riverdale. Lipscomb Academy. MBA. Oakland. Brentwood Academy. Brentwood. Antioch. Page. FRA.
No extras.
Nobody left out.
So if we are grading purely on which 10 teams belonged, Triple Threat D was the only voter who picked the exact final 10-team group.
That gives us an interesting split:
Closest order: Coach Daniel.
Most accurate 10-team field: Triple Threat D.
And that is exactly what makes this ranking system fun.
Four different people can look at the same Middle Tennessee football landscape, value different things and still combine to produce one ranking that reflects the entire crew.
Final Word
Week 7 strengthened the top of the board.
BGA still owns No. 1.
MBA responded after its first loss.
Riverdale keeps winning and is starting to put real pressure on No. 2.
Brentwood Academy has officially forced its way back into the championship-level conversation.
And Antioch is sitting at 7-0 with one of the most dangerous quarterbacks — and now one of the most disruptive defensive fronts — in Middle Tennessee.
Then there is the next tier: Lipscomb Academy, Oakland, Brentwood, Page and FRA.
The rankings are getting tighter.
The games are getting bigger.
And from this point forward, every Friday night has the ability to completely shake up Wednesday.
